I just wanted to say Thank you to everyone who voted for me. What a fabulous turnout at the pools and the numbers speak volumes to the level of frustration we are seeing... ahhh so it wasn't just me getting frustrated by everything we are seeing Fanny, Freddie, Bailouts, MTA payroll tax, etc.
I'm looking forward to getting down to the business of allowing taxpayers to actually GET something for their money, instead of giving it all away!
So thank you again for allowing Steve Flotteron and me represent you on Islip Town Board. I look forward to working with you. I will also be posting my office phone number and address here just as soon as I get settled into office on Jan 3rd.
Thank You,
Trish Bergin Weichbrodt

Top of the Ninth!
Top of the Ninth!
PLEASE remember to head to the polls tomorrow and vote for me and Steve Flotteron for Islip Town Council!
We are almost at the end of what has been a very long six months. So I decided as a self-professed political neophyte, to share my thought about the whole experience.
I have never walked so much and eaten so much pizza in my life! I also have never met so many great people. Knocking on doors in each community really gave me a clear perspective on the needs of each community. So thank you to everyone for sharing your ideas and for teaching me so much about each hamlet.
Fundraising was probably the worst part of it. I hate to ask people for money and I hate to waste money. In a political campaign, we all have to spend money on mailers and lawn signs. It is important that we get our names and ideas out, but after this experience I wish campaign reform would include this idea: Allow a candidate to raise money for the first 4 months for his or her campaign. Then during the last 4 months, have the candidates pick their favorite charitable organization, and have a contest to see how much money each candidate can raise for that cause. Wouldn't that be better than dropping thousands of dollars on lawn signs?! I guess to try to accomplish this, you'd need either campaign reform, or a deal with your opponent to try this out. THAT would require having a good relationship with your opponent, which leads me to my next point.
This campaign started off with two people who were professional friends for nearly 17 years, Jim Morgo and myself. We worked together on countless projects. He as an elected official ,and me as a news reporter. Punches were thrown from both camps. But I promise you that if Jim and I are voted in together, I will work hard WITH Jim to make Islip a place we want to live, vacation and do business.
Volunteers.. that was very interesting to me. I was amazed at how many people come out to support a candidate. I would attend volunteer meeting and walk out amazed that hundreds of people whom I have never met before, wanted to spend their free time trying to get me elected. I know what you're thinking, "What is in it for them?" But it isn't always that way. These people are genuinely concerned about their country and their community and they pour their hope into you, and as a candidate you've gotta run with it. It is flattering, but also a tremendous responsibility. So thank you to all of our volunteers who believed in me.
So IF and I stress IF I win, what will I be doing from now until January 1st? Well, most candidates hold a victory party to try to bail themselves out of the financial hole they got into towards the end of the campaign. Instead, I will focus my next fundraising efforts on someone very special in my life, and if you are so inclined to join us, I would be most appreciative. My sister Fionnuala (we're Irish) is 41 and is fighting a terrible form of cancer. She has three kids and a fabulous husband. We now have her in an experimental program and decided to hold a fundraiser for her on Sunday Nov. 8th 4-7pm at The Riverview in Oakdale. $60.00 pp. Food, Drinks, Raffles. After that, I will be exploring some of the revenue-generating programs that other municipalities are using during these difficult times, to generate money for the town. Research, research, research!
Lets hope for victory! Please get out the vote!

Trish Bergin

My Opponent Jim Morgo doesn't respect smart, successful women.
Good morning. I just want to share a press release with all of you, over an issue that is in today's newsday. If you read today's article you would see my opponent Jim Morgo played "Wag the Dog" with his line about how I called him a liar.
Let me explain to everyone that Jim Morgo has been sending out mailers that contain LIE after LIE about me. One of them says I will raise taxes by 25-percent if I'm elected. I have NO IDEA where the man even comes up with this stuff. Those types of mailers don't offend me because they are just garbage. And I have not complained about those mailers because I think they are silly and hold no merit. But this particular mailer that painted me in such a sexist light OFFENDS me. My opponent has said to my face, "I guess the people of Islip will have to decide between a man with a resume, or just another pretty face." He has made these comments to others in our community and I have taken the HIGH road. But when I saw that he was ignorant enough to put his feelings against women in a mail piece- I HAD to speak up.
So here is a press release on the issue so you can better understand why I am so furious with Jim Morgo.
Islip, NY – Islip Town Council candidate Trish Bergin (I,R,C - East Islip) today blasted Democrat Jim Morgo for a recent campaign mailing in which he refers to her, the sole female candidate for Town Council, as someone whose career consists of merely “read[ing] the news.” Morgo depicts Bergin as a coffee-clutching, movie star capable of only reading headlines about Britney Spears.
This award-winning journalist who worked in the trenches for nearly two decades for Channel 12 News on Long Island, and CBS in New York is appalled by Morgo’s lack of professionalism. Trish, who most recently has been appearing as a guest on Fox News Channel’s Strategy Room stated she is “astounded that in this day and age a woman running for office is mocked and depicted as someone who lacks gravitas by a male political opponent. “If I were a male journalist I am certain Mr. Morgo would not have tried to depict me as a Bimbo. This reminds me of the night former Islip Town Supervisor Pete McGowan arrogantly called Assemblywoman Ginny Fields (D) a ‘Bimbo.’ This type of behavior transcends all political party lines and must end. This is 2009, not 1961.”
Trish Bergin will be joined at today’s press conference by more than a dozen supporters, including representatives of a newly formed group – “Moms for Bergin”.
Bergin, who holds a Master’s Degree in Journalism, was on the front lines of some of New York’s biggest stories including 9/11 and TWA Flight 800. Ms. Bergin was awarded for her investigative report on secret uranium-tainted land in Hicksville. She also received an Emmy nomination for her undercover series on the drug problems plaguing our schools. Her work took her overseas to dangerous areas in Mexico to follow the money trail of illegal immigrants. Trish also reported from post-communist Albania where she covered the Kosovo refugees fleeing the border for safety.
“For a man who aspires to equally represent all Town of Islip residents, Mr. Morgo showed a complete disrespect for women and an overt lack of judgment,” Bergin concluded.

Thursday August 13th.
I saw many of you at the last Islip Town Board meeting this Tuesday Afternoon (Aug. 11th) and was more than frustrated by the outcome. I watched and listened as some of the nearly 100 town employees discussed the sad fact that they are faced with losing their jobs during this recession. YET, when Councilman Steve Flotteron proposed a 10-percent pay cut for some of the Town's top earners the town board shot down the proposal.
Look, these difficult economic times call for difficult decisions. Yet, Town Board members who decided NOT to take a pay cut to spare some of these men and women their jobs, shame on you. Steve Flotteron's resolution meant HE would be among those who would be taking a 10 percent pay cut, but no other board member supported him. I didn't hear ONE board member say, "Steve that is a brave move and I will back you on this." Maybe it is time for a Tea Party in Islip.
