Thursday August 13th.
I saw many of you at the last Islip Town Board meeting this Tuesday Afternoon (Aug. 11th) and was more than frustrated by the outcome. I watched and listened as some of the nearly 100 town employees discussed the sad fact that they are faced with losing their jobs during this recession. YET, when Councilman Steve Flotteron proposed a 10-percent pay cut for some of the Town's top earners the town board shot down the proposal.
Look, these difficult economic times call for difficult decisions. Yet, Town Board members who decided NOT to take a pay cut to spare some of these men and women their jobs, shame on you. Steve Flotteron's resolution meant HE would be among those who would be taking a 10 percent pay cut, but no other board member supported him. I didn't hear ONE board member say, "Steve that is a brave move and I will back you on this." Maybe it is time for a Tea Party in Islip.
